Dr. Jeannie Pool is an ASCAP composer whose compositions were heard during recent season in California, Washington, D.C., Ohio, Denmark, and Toronto, Canada. As a music historian and producer, she served as the Executive Director of the Society for the Preservation of Film Music from 1990 to 2002. She lectures frequently on film music history and preservation, mostly in Europe and the United States. She serves as Artistic Director and producer of a concert series at Church of the Lighted Window  in La Canada, California.



An award-winning radio producer, Jeannie Pool specializes in contemporary music of the Americas and was heard weekly on KPFK-FM, Pacifica Radio in Los Angeles between 1981 and 1996. Pool has interviewed many composers and performers, including those working in film music in Los Angeles. Since 1980, she has organized many conferences and concerts including International Congresses on Women in Music in New York, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. Formerly associated with California State University, Northridge and California Institute of the Arts, she has lectured on music, and produced contemporary and world music festivals. She produces LP, CD, and cassette recordings for Cambria Master Recordings, an independent label in California which specializes in twentieth-century American music. She serves as and Advisor to the Board of the International Alliance for Women in Music, which she helped to establish. In 1995 she was honorred by the National Association of Composers U.S.A. (NACUSA) for her work to promote American composers and music and is currently Secretary of the Officers' Council of the National Board of Directors. She was elected to the Board of ASMAC (the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers) in 2004

Dr. Pool has served as adjunct faculty at Fullerton College and Mount Saint Mary's College, where she taught courses on music history and appreciation, women in music, jazz history, theory, and solfege. Her publishing company, Jaygayle Music publishes Dr. Pool's music and the music of Zenobia Powell Perry. Currently, Dr. Pool is making her first feature-length documentary entitled Peggy Gilbert and Her All-Girl Orchestra, narrated by Lily Tomlin. Not only is she the director, writer and producer, but she has written the music for the film which should be premiered in November, 2005.



Born in Paris, Illinois in 1951, Dr. Pool grew up in Ohio and studied music in New York City at Hunter College of the City University of New York (B.A. in Music). She also holds a Masters degree from California State University, Northridge where she did a dissertation on music in Los Angeles in the nineteenth century. She received a Ph.D. in Music at the Claremont Graduate University in May, 2002, with a dissertation on the black Creek Indian composer Zenobia Powell Perry.
