Shawn E. Okpebholo is a widely sought-after and award-winning composer, whose music can be characterized as diverse, dynamic, and genuine. He composes in styles ranging from contemporary classical to liturgical. His music has been performed in five continents, and in nearly every major U.S. city. Distinguished venues and festivals featuring his compositions inclue The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, National Cathedral (both Washington DC); Monte Music Festival (India); CBDNA National Conference (Seattle, WA); MusicX Contemporary Music Festival (Cincinnati, OH); PRIZM Ensemble Concert Series (Memphis, TN)l and the state music festicals of Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, and Texas. Dr. Okpebholo has received numerous commissions from noted soloists, universities, and organizations, including the International Tuba and Euphonium Association, the United States Air Force, the Jackson Symphony Orchestra, and from noted performing artists such as The Cadillac Moon Ensemble, the United States Army Field Band, Will Liverman, and J'nai Bridges, to name a few. Dr. Okpebholo's artistry has been recognized by receiving first prizes in the Accent06 Composition Competition, KMEA All-Collegiate Composition Contest, Peniston Honors in Composition, and others. Currently, he is Associate Professor of Music Composition and Theory at Wheaton College Conservatory of Music, Wheaton, IL.
